Description Malcolm Sparks CLA 2008-06-27 19:56:16 EDT
In Eclipse 3.3 Europa it was possible to cut a region between the point and the mark, as in normal Emacs. This functionality has regressed in Eclipse 3.4 Ganymede. Although the key binding is still bound, an area must be selecting with the mouse or with shift-arrow keys before the cut command will work. It is not productive (if you are a power user) to have to move your fingers from the home keys to the arrow keys in order to simply select and cut a block of text, which is an operation you frequently have to do when coding. Dropping basic Emacs functionality like this is disappointing, especially since Eclipse was making some steady progress in catching up with Emacs.

This works for me on linux GTK in both the Java and text editors.

Set the mark and then CTRL+W.

What editor are you using? Is there anything in your error log? (please attach: <workspace>/.metadata/.log)

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
