Description diana.peh CLA 2008-06-11 17:01:27 EDT
When you select an element in a report, the selection is indicated by a moving border with a graded light grey color. This style is not as clear as the solid black border with handles. We should revert to the old style.

The new style is also particularly bad for screenshots in documentation. In a static image, the light grey border does not stand out at all.

You can switch the selection border style through top menu "Window->Preference->Report design". There are three styles: Solid, Gradient, Animated gradient.

Why even offer the user three styles? The user is not going to figure out that the styles are configurable.

Only two styles are listed in Preference. You have to deselect the two styles to get the solid border. This is not typical UI for selecting an option.

The solid style should show handles (black squares in the corners). Without handles, the selection border looks like an actual border set through the Border property.

I still recommend reverting to the old style, and offering only one style. If we really want to offer three styles, then make the solid border with handles the default.
