Description Philip Tucker CLA 2008-05-21 13:07:19 EDT
I'd like to be able to set different margin sizes per document type (in our case, we want 80-column widths for .js and 100 for .java). This includes both text Editors > Show print margin > Print margin column and the Code Style > Line Wrapping > Maximum Line Width options.

Please do take a look at this bug (262327) if you will be implementing this, as the feature request in 262327 is different from what is requested in the current bug.

There is some overlap between the bugs, but what is unique about 262327 is the ability to select a range of text, and reformat only that range. This is necessary for comment blocks in code, for example. (a use-case which the original bug here doesn't handle).

Perhaps there is a way to automate it, but I would actually prefer it to be only semi-automatic, where I have control over what text is re-formatted by selecting it and executing some command. If it's automatic, it has a chance of making a mistake in knowing which parts of code I want wrapped, and which not. (for example, it might be difficult for an automatic system to distinguish python docstrings from normal triple-quoted strings).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
