When I used eclipse on Linux I could type the name of a class in the Package Explorer and navigate to it. The same was true for other list/tree components. This feature seems not to be available on mac os.
Yes, this is native platform behaviour on GTK. Have you tried Ctrl+Shift+T (Java types) or Ctrl+Shift+R (any file) instead? This allows you to find even those classes/files that are not yet expanded in the package explorer.
Thanks. Yes I am aware of Command+Shift+T and R and though they are extremely useful I can still see a value for "search as you type" - especially to save multiple page up/down when you are on the list or if you want to use the list as a way to narrow your search scope (e.g. stand on a package and start type the class name - that may exists in many other places).
Also, forgot to mention the same concept can apply not only to class/resource but also to Outline view, Tasks, Problems, ...).
