Eclipse fails to start on java 1.5 (sun jvm update 12) with the following error:
gmem.c:172: failed to allocate 16 bytes
aborting...
aclipse: Fatal IO error 12 (cannot allocate memory) on X server :0.0.
On java 1.6 (sun jvm update 2) eclipse starts.

OS: Suse 10.3

You're likely seeing bug 209428, which is fixed in the 3.4 stream.  Can you try a recent integration build such as http://fullmoon.ottawa.ibm.com/downloads/drops/I20080325-2233/index.php (don't worry about the red 'X' beside the download link) and follow up here whether this version starts for you or not?  And if not, please try to find a native dump file (eg.- hs_err_*) and attach it here, thanks.
