Description Kevin Haaland CLA 2001-10-10 22:31:12 EDT
This DCR has been reported before, but I could not find the PR to add notes to.

- when using the import/export wizards, click 'Select Types...'.
- in the 'Other Extensions' field, you must enter extensions as 'jpg', 'htm' etc...
- this was not obvious to me, the preset file types are all listed as '*.class', '*.java'
- until I was told how it actually works, I thought this feature was broken
I think most users will assume the '*.' is required.

Future Design Change:
accept (htm), (.htm), (*.htm), or even (home.htm) input types.

Temperary possible usability improvements:
i. list all the preset files as (class), (jav), (java) etc... this doesn't look as good though
but at least it would imply how to enter Other Extensions.
-or-
ii. in the Other Extensions text field, have 'abc' there by default indicating how
to enter additional types.
-or-
iii. if the user clicks OK and there is an invalid extension, pop-up a dialog
i.e. 'myFile.*.htm', 'myFile..htm' are invalid files; this is how '*.htm' and '.htm' are
currently being interpreted as.

Using the txt extension as an example

.txt
txt
and
*.txt

work in build 20020115
