Description Willian Mitsuda CLA 2008-03-08 01:52:33 EST
In bug#195691, Mik and Steffen said they missed an "apply crop" concept in screenshot attachment workflow:

from comment#34 (Mik):
> The only question I have is how will the user trigger the "Crop" action after selecting that tool? In Photoshop this is not quite discoverable beause you have to hit Enter. I think that we can go with that but we could help the user by putting an Info message on the wizard dialog saying something like "Press Enter to crop" after the user has made the crop selection.

from comment#50 (Steffen):
> The only minor nit I have is that there is no way to actually crop the image. Did you consider adding an "Apply Crop" action that would limit the visible portion of the image to selection? I kept hitting Enter which took a new screenshot.

Also there is a need for a icon that communicates better the intention than the current "cut" icon.

Personal opinion: please make this optional, as I find it more quick to just mark the submission area and move on.

I think there should be an apply button, that activates the moment a crop selection is created. Consider this use case:

I want to attach just a small piece of the screenshot, say 300x300 out of 3200x1200 (dual monitor). I want to annotate a small piece of that 300x300. Currently, I have to select the region I want and then make the annotation very carefully, as the image is scaled down a lot. When there would be an apply button, the unnecessary parts of the image would not be shown, and as a result, the interesting part of the image is visible at a larger scale. Now the annotation can be done more precisely.

Besides that, most people remotely familiar with cropping tools in image editors expect to perform two actions when cropping: selecting, and then performing. I think Mylyn should conform to this two-step process.

This is available in Mylyn 3.1. The current selection can be re-captured from the Capture drop-down.
