Description Kevin Bracey CLA 2007-10-18 12:04:06 EDT
ACTION_PROPERTY documents that the progress UI tracks the supplied action's enabled state and tooltip text, but the current progress UI does neither.

(This report is based on my experiences with jobs that set KEEP and ACTION upon completion, but code inspection suggests that the problem is global).

The lower line of text in a job progress item shows either the latest subtask supplied to the Job's progress monitor, or if the Job has finished, the message from the final IStatus. But in the current UI, this text doubles as a web-like link that fires the specified action.

This dual purpose for the text means that one has to be somewhat careful in wording one's status messages. You need a piece of text that reflects the status but also hints at what the link will do. This would be a lot clearer if the UI did what the Javadoc for ACTION_PROPERTY promises, and the tooltip for the link showed the tooltip for the action. At present the tooltip for the link merely pointlessly repeats its text.

Further contrary to the docs, if the supplied action is disabled, the link is still enabled, and will run the action.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
