Description Ketan Padegaonkar CLA 2007-10-02 04:05:41 EDT
We (ThoughtWorks) would like to contribute a Mylyn connector for Mingle (http://mingle.thoughtworks.com). Mingle is a software application that helps teams manage Agile projects.

We intend to maintain this connector at all times.

Some background on Mingle's licensing:
Mingle is a commercial product that follows a model that is similar to Jira. Mingle if free for open source projects, and small teams of upto 5 people; commercial licenses apply to commercial use for teams more than 5 users.

Ketan: sorry for the slow reply on this. The main thing to figure out is whether this project is best incubated inside of Eclipse or outside of Eclipse, as with the other Mylyn connectors visible at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylyn_Extensions What are your thoughts on this?

Mik:

I'm not sure what is the stance of the Mylyn committee on such matters. I've seen some votes for a couple of Mylyn connectors, what happens if connectors are able to gather enough votes ?

Is there any plan about some sort of a Mylyn connector incubator for such projects?

In any case I'd like to push for a mingle connector in Mylyn, if that makes sense.

Ketan: our current notion is that the priority for Mylyn is to evolve as a framework, and as part of that to support connector implementations. We consider Bugzilla, JIRA, Trac and XPlanner to be our reference implementations. As such we are not currently prioritizing growing the set of connectors that should be part of the eclipse.org Mylyn offerings, but instead encouraging an ecosystem of connectors such as those listed at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylyn_Extensions

However, there has been some consideration of whether we should create an incubation project. We are not ready to do that yet, but we will consider connectors such as this as one reason to consider creating an incubation project. My concern is that doing so could be hard to manage, because it would could make existing external extensions feel like they're 2nd class, and that's exactly what we'd like to avoid. So for now I suggest that you proceed with implementation on your end, and we can continuing discussing your integration and other needs on this bug.

Closing this issue.

Ketan: I don't see the connector listed on the extensions page, is it available?

The connector is still work in progress, and I'm working on it when I get some time.

The source is available on the codehaus: http://minglyn.codehaus.org/

I would be updating the wiki once there's something substantial to show.
