Description Mike CLA 2007-08-15 11:59:04 EDT
Eclipse Version: 3.3.0
Build id: I20070625-1500
Mac OS X 10.4.10

When I use the menu system, Eclipse -> Quit Eclipse, or use Command + Q, some local settings are lost. For example, when I dock my Perspective list on the top left, quit and restart, it's back on the top right. The Confirm Exit prompt also does not show up.

But when I x out, the prompt appears, and the preferences are saved.

Reopening. We should test again with tomorrow's I build but I believe this is another case where we don't save the preferences at the time they are changed.

Downloaded nightly build this morning, and it seems these problems have been resolved in my testing.

You can still lose preference settings when you kill the Eclipse process, which this bug is about.

It's just that Cmd-Q doesn't kill the process anymore :) - see bug 194146 which has been fixed in the meantime. (Exiting with Cmd-Q did not shut down Eclipse properly).

Only just now found this bug; I have been seeing this problem in Windoze XP, with Eclipse build-ID I20070621-1340.

===========

One example is:

Open Synch View; see two links and a check box; check the box; click one link; later on quit using ALT-F4 (equivalent to Menu -> File -> Exit, right?); on restart, still see the check box and the two links.

Just now tried the same procedure, but clicked the Windows-window "X" to quit, and now upon restart the Synch View correctly populates itself.

I do not find this pref in the Window -> Prefs anywhere (but it could be hiding somewhere)

===========

Another possible example is:

Package Explorer -> Link to editor

But this setting is *always* lost (even when closing using the "X"); also I do not find this one in the Window -> Prefs. Is it even intended as a preference any more? It would persist in 3.2

Which Eclipse package did you download? Did you download 'Eclipse Classic' or 'Eclipse IDE for Java Developers'? This smells like bug 195238.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
