compare link rendering

Compare link rendering between task repository dialog and task list. Links on task list are noticeably more bloory and use strange color. That color should be like for system hyperlinks (see screenshot), or even better just black (as for dialog font colors), so it won't create visual noise.

Eugene: Link colors are not visual noise, they are an important visual cue. The problem here is that the link color used by preference page is set up in an OS-specific way by org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Link and I don't know how to get this color in a generic way.

Steve: is there a mechanism for us to get this color so that we can set it on our custom hyperlink? Ours is a subclass of org.eclipse.ui.forms.widgets.Hyperlink. The subclassing is done so that we can put our ellipsis on the end not in the middle.

For the time being I have made the color be a blue that matches the blue in our toolbar icons.

Maybe for the novice user for first 2 minutes. After that it is noise, because discovery happens. Besides, it is a rich UI for Christ sake, and not a web browser. Links are looking bit off, especially if they aren't used often, i.e. working set is rather advanced action, and for task activation is simply more natural to use task list itself, since user already have it open.

Eugene: Thank you for expressing your opinion, but please try to refrain from using such a tone on bug reports because it makes it harder to have a technical discussion.

The current UI is drawing on a combination of the Eclipse UI Guidelines and recent Window/Vista UI guidelines which specify how hyperlinks should be used in modern UIs. I am happy to discuss it more, but for 2.0 have no plan of removing the on-demand hyperlink style from the Task List bread crumb bar for reasons discussed in those documents. I do plan on bringing our UI for this for review with the Eclipse UI Working Group to solicit feedback and help expand on the current Eclipse UI guidelines for this.

I am not sure what you mean

> The current UI is drawing on a combination of the Eclipse UI Guidelines

Interesting... my interpretation of links in Eclipse UI is that they always used to jump into similar UI entity, but not for action-like stuff (i.e. open configuration or other unrelated dialogs). Also, links don't look nice in limited UI real estates (i.e. when those "..." are rendered) and underlined text is making it look even worse.

> but for 2.0 have no plan of removing the on-demand hyperlink style from the Task List

I deduced that already

> bread crumb bar for reasons discussed in those documents.

Did I already mention that bread crumb supposed to show nested/hierarchical items and not those unrelated? Unless I am missing something.

Sounds like a good plan.
