Description RN CLA 2007-06-08 13:13:04 EDT
Sorry to compare it with JBuilder, but this is one of the issues keeping me from switching over to Eclipse. I usually have multiple projects that I'm working on at the same time. I would love it if Eclipse could have the same kind of project-switching capabilities as JBuilder.

Basically, when I switch to a different project, I would want to see only the files related to that project, and not all the files that I have open from all the other projects.

Switching workspace requires an application restart so that is not a very good option.

Hopefully you can give this some consideration for your next IDE upgrade.

Thanks.

Have a look at "working sets". It allows you to, on a global or a per view basis, restrict the set of resources you see. This can be an entire project, a set of projects, or some particular files.

The feature is a bit hidden by default but you can turn it on easily. Check out Customize Perspective->Commands and enable "Window Working Set" and "Working Set Manipulation". You will also seen an option at the view level under a particular view's menu (the downfacing white triangle top/right in a view).

If you find this does not address your question then please reopen this bug.

Thanks. This brings it one step closer.

However, the files open in the editor view do not change with the working set. Am I missing a configuration somewhere?

Also, a comment about the "Window working set" selection (to globally link views to a working set selection); It's not a big deal, and I know I'm being bit of a prude, but it could use a quick select kind of thing, instead of having to select one set and then deselect the other. Just a thought.

Thanks.

Sorry, can you clarify your question?

I'm sorry, I sent a reply, but it seems you probably didn't get it.

I'll try to explain what I mean ...

In the editor view, where the tabs are for all the open files that I'm currently editing, that does not change when I switch a working set.

eg. if I have file_a and file_b from working set ws_1 open in tabs in the editor view, when I switch to working set ws_2, I continue to see the tabs for file_a and file_b. What would be nice (and again sorry for comparing to JBuilder but that's how it is with switching projects in it), if I am editing file_c and file_d from ws_2, the editor view should only show the tabs for these two files and hide the ones for file_a and file_b. And if I switch back to ws_1, then file_c and file_d should be hidden, and tabs for file_a and file_b should be visible again.

I hope that makes sense, otherwise I will try to get some screen shots.

This would be a great help to me if it can be incorporated. Nevertheless, I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification. Its an interesting idea, a more pervasive notion of working set than we currently do. And we don't mind comparisons to JBuilder or others :)

You should also have a look at Mylin (old name: Mylar), where views and also editors are filtered by the active task's relevant files.

Possible candidate for a working set refresh here.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
