Description maarten meijer CLA 2007-04-27 16:18:50 EDT
In the logs of my bugzilla installation, accessed many times a day with Mylar the client is identified as "Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.0.1".
Wouldn't it be better if this was something like "Mylar 2.0.0 Bugzilla Connector using Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.0.1"
The same would apply to the generic webconnector.
This would allow bugzilla and other issue tracker admins to see the importance of catering to Mylar and provide insight in its adoption and use.

What do you think Mik, should I enter bugs or enhancement requests for this?
Maarten

Hi, I'm not Mik, but I think it is a good idea.

And yes, you should enter a bug for this.

Hi, I am Mik, and I also think it is a good idea :)

I'll set the user agent parameter in WebClientUtil.setupHttpClient. Is there an easy way to determine the version of a plug-in? Otherwise I would suggest to simply use 'Mylar'.
Comment 3 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-05-16 13:32:45 EDT
Sounds good. I don't know of an easy way to get the version. Last time I had to do it I got the plug-in's name or location from the bundle and used the fact that the version was appended to that.

I think it would be good to use: "Eclipse Mylar using HttpClient/3.0.1".
Comment 4 Steffen Pingel CLA 2007-05-17 10:48:30 EDT
I have settled on "Eclipse Mylar (HttpClient 3.0.1)".

OK, now we can see whether we Mylar users are a minority or something bigger...
Thank you!

No kidding! I think that the impact of this one deserved the greatbug tag, even though there is currently no official use for that tag as far as I know.

For consequences see bug 196056 (for historical reasons)
