Description Christophe Avare CLA 2007-02-10 02:25:50 EST
Build ID: 3.3M4

Steps To Reproduce:
Unzip the swt-xxx-motif-hpux-PA_RISC.zip file and then unjar swt.jar.

More information:
The swt.jar for HPUX containts libswt-***-3318.sl while the version.txt contains 3.325.
The shared libraries are then not found or extracted through the new auto-extract functionality, and swt cannot be used.
Even after extracting the libraries manually and setting the java.library.path, swt still is looking for *-3325.sl libs!

SWT shared libraries seem to be frozen to version 3.318 in the build process.
This is still the case for the nightly build I20070209-1006.

When you download the M4 (and M5) builds, there is a web page that you must click through that contains the following warning:
"Warning: The HPUX PA_RISC build machine is currently offline pending upgrades, therefore the SWT Motif HPUX PA_RISC libraries could not be recompiled. We recommend that you do not use the Eclipse 3.3. M4 SDK for HPUX Motif. This machine should be back up and running for Eclipse 3.3 M5."

That said, I see that the integration and nightly builds do not have this click-through (**Sonia, we should fix that immediately, please).

Our HPUX machines are still unusable, therefore the click-through words need to read as follows:
"Warning: The HPUX PA_RISC build machine is currently offline pending upgrades, therefore the SWT Motif HPUX PA_RISC libraries could not be recompiled. We recommend that you do not use the Eclipse 3.3. M4 or M5 SDK for HPUX Motif."

The last good HPUX build before our 2 HPUX build (and test) machines became unusable was 3.3M3.

I believe that it has been decided that we can no longer support HPUX because we are no longer able to build it or test it. **Mcq, can you please confirm this, and please let Sonia know how to proceed, and please let Bogdan know what he should do about this bug. Thanks!

FYI:

We downloaded only the SWT binaries.
The warning notice don't show up either using that link.

Given that we do not currently have any way to build or test the HPUX/Motif version of Eclipse, I can't imagine why it's on the downloads page for any drop since M3. If someone in the community wants to step up to supporting that platform (i.e. building SWT and doing all testing on it), then we can consider re-instating it as a reference platform, but until then HP-UX is dead.
Comment 4 Kim Moir CLA 2007-02-13 17:40:47 EST
I added the click through for the SWT separate download for M5 and M4. I apologize, I missed this the first time. Later this week, we will completely remove HPUX drops from the builds including the swt standalone drop, see bug 171600

Can we close this bug then? I'm not happy about it but McQ is correct. We can neither build or test on HPUX which means we have no business shipping it.

Closing as WONTFIX / helpwanted. We are definitely open to re-instating the platform, if someone will support it as described in comment #3.
