Description Kevin McGuire CLA 2007-01-10 11:38:33 EST
Many mice (and keyboards) now have forward/back navigation buttons. For my mouse these come into Eclipse as Button 4 and 5, which is correct from a pure device point of view, but in Windows these also send special forward/back navigation events which web browsers make use of. Note also that the drivers allow remapping of these special events to different buttons which may not be 4 and 5.

SteveN's initial investigation was that windows sends virtual key commands (?) as follows:
		//VK_BROWSER_BACK (A6)
		//Windows 2000/XP: Browser Back key
		//VK_BROWSER_FORWARD (A7)
		//Windows 2000/XP: Browser Forward key

It would be very handy if Eclipse provided access to these events so that our editor/view navigation could behave more in line with web browsers.

No idea how other platforms handle these devices.

I think this bug has been fixed. I see MouseEvents with button 4 (back) and button 5 (forward).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
