Changed install loc from eclipse~:F1 to eclipseF1 and it works...
What do you mean I cannot create a directory call eclipse~:F1 <g>

Hummm .may also be that I do not believe I have the full GTK2 nor gtklib-x11 on 
that machine... ;-(

Works for me with a tilda (~) in the path but not with a colon (:) in the path.
Marking as duplicate of bug 17281.
