This is just an crazy idea I had, and I'm posting just to register it hopping someone can investigate some day. It would be interesting to have a feature where the bug editor can show a "related bugs" list. This list can be just a hint, lazily populated using the set of accessed tasks, by computing: 1 - Bugs it refers to by recognizing hyperlinks (bug#<number>). 2 - Bugs that refers to it (the same as (1), but "on demand" as the bugs are accessed and the links are discovered). This is interesting because usually you refer to other bugs via hyperlinking, but never knows what others refers to you. 3 - Inter-repository bug linking by recognizing other repository's URL.
Migrating local task storage to lucene would help a lot...
Yes, this is really similar to what we used to have waaaay back with 0.2 and active search of bugs. So we actually have all that background search infrastructure, but for 1.0 had to put the focus on repository integration and remove it from the active search stuff. I'll mark helpwanted for now. The old background task repository search code is in the sandbox.
Mylyn has been restructured, and our issue tracking has moved to GitHub [1]. We are closing ~14K Bugzilla issues to give the new team a fresh start. If you feel that this issue is still relevant, please create a new one on GitHub. [1] https://github.com/orgs/eclipse-mylyn
