Description Curtis d'Entremont CLA 2006-11-17 15:14:40 EST
I20061114-1636
Vista RC1

I notice that every so often my navigator view (package explorer or CVS repositories) is missing its expand/collapse triangles. Everything still works, but the triangles are not there. Even if I select items in the tree.

If I switch focus to something else then back they show up. I can't reproduce it consistently, but it happens roughly once per day. I'll let you know if I can reproduce it. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help debug.

The triangles should fade out and fade back in. If you can get a set of steps that causes them to fade out and not come back, this would help a lot.

I haven't seen this happen since I upgraded to RTM. I'll reopen if it happens and I can find a sequence of steps.

This is still happening.

It happens to me in Eclipse but never in a simple example. Curtis, if you can get a set of steps, then we would be most greatful. We are working on this too but not having much luck.

Comment 7 Rich Dubrawski CLA 2007-07-18 00:53:12 EDT
I have seen this consistently with release 3.3. The New Project dialog never shows the triangle. If I select windows xp compatibility mode it will show me a + symbol, but in neither case can I expand the selection to see the sub menu.
I am running on Vista 64 Premium, using the
Eclipse SDK
Version: 3.3.0
Build id: I20070625-1500
I have attached a capture of the image. Let me know if there is any debug capture that I can get.

is it possible to disable this feature at all? It's really annoying, that I have to mouse over the window to get an info, if this node contains any childs at all....

This is the correct Vista platform tree behavior.

I would love to get more information and fix this bug.

I'm afraid I can't provide a reliable way to reproduce this issue either, but I do have one observation that might help:

If the triangles get stuck at their "off" position (not displayed at all) and you move the mouse cursor repeatedly in and out of the affected view, the traingles slowly appear.
It almost looks as if every move "into" the view steps the "fade in" animation one frame forward. You need to move at a controlled pace, too fast and not every move is "captured".

Once you've managed to "manually" step through all the frames (this can easily take 30 seconds), the problem is fixed. Hovering over a triangle correctly highlights it again and the traingles will now fade out (and back in) if you move the mouse in/out of the view.

I still see the problem in Build id: 20100218-1602. The triangles are not completely missing, they just didn't complete their fade in process. You can also see them (though faintly) in the screenshot Curtis has attached.
From what I saw, it happens more if you quickly expand or collapse one of the items in a view before the triangles have fully faded in. It also seems, that the fade in/out speed is not constant. Sometimes the triangles fade in in less than a second and in other cases it can be much slower up to about 20-30 seconds. The (very) slow fade in happens quite often after Eclipse window being restored from minimized state.
