Description Randy Hudson CLA 2002-05-13 14:34:38 EDT
I work with at least 6 workbench windows open. When I change the property of
the Task list to show only errors on the selected resource, this change is not
applied to the other 5 instances of the Task list. This is incorrect behavior
when compared to the Search View and Console View.

The tasks view is conceptually a singleton, just like the Search View (despite
the implementation requiring an instance per WorkbenchWindow). The search view
is always the same on all 6 of my workbench windows. The task list should be
the same.

I disagree. You may well be working on different projects in different
windows, and want to have different filtering options per window.
This is a major usability decision that affects all views, not just the task
list. If we do make any changes here, we should be consistent across views.
In my view (so to speak), Search and Console should not share settings either.

wontfix
Comment 3 Randy Hudson CLA 2002-05-13 17:27:43 EDT
This is inconsistent behavior. If I were to have 6 perspectives open in one
Window, I would get shared filter state because the View IS shared, *even if I
didn't want this*. Just because I choose to have 6 perspectives open in 6
different Windows doesn't mean I should get different behavior. I shouldn't be
forced to work in one window.

What you suggest is a temporary change just for a specific window may in fact
become the default setting if you were to close that Window or View (or
shutdown the workbench). Or, if you have multiple perspectives in the same
window, then it isn't a local change anyway.
