Description Tom Hofmann CLA 2006-09-19 05:45:17 EDT
I20060918-2000

- have cus A.java, Derived.java:
------------ A.java --------
package p;

public class A {
  public static void main(String... args) {
    Derived d= new Derived();
    d.method();
  }
}
--------- Derived.java -----
package p;

public class Derived {
}
----------------------------

> mark Derived.java as derived
> close Derived.java
> note the compilation error in A, as 'method' does not exist

- invoke quick fix, select to "add Derived.method()"
> Derived.java is modified without a warning (ok)
> Derived.java is opened with the added method name in linked mode
- type "a"

< expected: a question message box asking me if I want to edit the derived file
> actual: the file is edited before, *then* the message box pops up
- choose "No"
> the file stays edited and dirty and can be saved, but cannot be edited.

Notes:
- undo / redo works in Derived.java, despite that other edit operations do not work.
- Derived.java is modified by quick fix, but not saved. It is unexpected that I have to save a resource that I cannot otherwise edit.
- This is much more disturbing than with read-only files, as the quick fix and refactoring operations pop up a warning before modifying these.

Similar scenario is reported in bug 157466.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
