Description snam CLA 2006-07-24 15:21:18 EDT
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #87863 +++

Use "file/open untitled text file", add some text, use "save as"
The only choices available are inside the current workspace.
"Save as" ought to let me navigate anywhere to save the file.

My Bug #87863 add on:
Use "File/Open File", open a file outside the workspace, edit the file, use "save".
Now close the edited file and open it in another editor, you will see that all the changes are lost!!!
So Eclipse can't save outside the workspace. But it does let the user edit the file. Eclipse even lets the user save the file without an error message that the file cannot be saved.

I'm experiencing the same thing under Windows XP. I opened an external HTML file, made tons of changes, saved it, but nothing was saved and lost all of my work. I am currently unable to save any edits to files outside of the workspace.

I tried to reproduce this bug in Eclipse 3.2, Eclipse 3.2.1 and Eclipse 3.3M5 on Windows XP, but without success. Maybe you had some specific plugin installed?
What happened when you closed the file in Eclipse and reopened it in Eclipse?
Was there something in the .log file?

Strange but true. I can't reproduce the bug anymore either... (I tried to reproduce this bug in Eclipse 3.2.1)

I cannot reproduce this bug on I20101102-0800. Please feel free to reopen if this is still a problem.
