Description Gerd Castan CLA 2006-07-09 02:14:17 EDT
This is Mac OS X 10.4.7

java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-111)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-64, mixed mode, sharing)

German kayboard

In old days, I've been able to navigate through edit history using alt left arrow and alt right arrow. This doesn't work any more. I'm aware of bug 95950.

I found the functionality in the menu Navigate->Back: command[; Navigate->Forward: command]
Can anybody explain to a simple minded developer (that's me) how how to access this with a German keyboard?
There is no key [ and no key ] on my keyboard. I have to press alt 5 and alt 6 to get [ and ].
Command alt 5 and Command alt 6 don't navigate through edit history. I don't get it.

This is Callisto 3.2 without C/C++

Command+Alt+Left/Right are also bound to Navigate > Back/Forward on the Mac.

Apple also does not have a consistent story to follow (at least up to 10.4), and Command+Left/Right would conflict with caret movement in text editors.

The only thing that's not really nice is that the main menu shows shortcuts Command+[ and Command+], even with keyboard layouts that cannot generate such events. But if I remember correctly, Safari has the same problem.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
