Description Paul Banks CLA 2006-06-22 18:07:33 EDT
The visual editor is barely usable on Linux due to extreme slowness when making changes with the editor.

Steps to reproduce :

 * Create a new Java project
 * Add a "Visual Class"
 * Select either SWT -> Composite or Swing -> Application
 * Add a button to the new form. Note the delay of 3 or more seconds to display the button
 * Resize or move the new button. Note the delay of 3 or more seconds to see the change.

Notes :

 * Whilst running Visual Editor, a new Java process is created which appears to hold a running copy of the window as it's being edited. When you make a change in Visual Editor, this second window updates with the changes immediatly. Then, after a pause of about 3 seconds the visual editor version is updated.

 * This problem does not occur on Windows.

 * I'm running Fedora 5 on a dual core AMD64.

Please try the recommendation to close the Properties view when not in use, as described in bug 104998.
