KDE uses Ctrl-Fn as the selector for desktops, so if you have the default4 desktops defined, Ctrl-f1, Ctrl-f2, Ctrl-f3 and Ctrl-f4 will be swallowed by KDE long before it gets anywhere close to Eclipse. So using Ctrl-f4 to close an editor session does not work. I run 8 desktops, and so Ctrl-F6 is also blocked to me.
2.0 will have support for switching between predefined keybinding configurations in the editor (e.g. Default vs. Emacs). But 2.0 will not support user customization of the keybindings. So, accelerators like Ctrl+F4 and Ctrl+F6 are effectively hardwired for 2.0. Can the accelerators in KDE be redefined, e.g. to use Ctrl+Alt+Fn? Eclipse avoids using Ctrl+Alt combinations.
Well yes I can, but that means that I have to tailor each workstation that Iuse for Eclipse, so it does not "work out of the box".I suppose I will have to get the windows and menu keys defined to X and thenI can get around this problem if I redefine one of them as the Meta key anduse the 4 modifer KDE scheme, but for someone who has got used to KDE and hasall the shortcuts as reflex, having to change for Eclipse will feel bad.
I hear you. Managing accelerators across platforms is one of the more challenging areas of Eclipse. Do you have any suggested replacements for our Ctrl+Fx keys? I'm going through and trying to rationalize all our accelerators. I'd like to use Ctrl+W for close (however I was considering this in addition to Ctrl+F4), and want to find an alternative for Ctrl+F6 (Ctrl+E would be nice). If I can do something here for KDE I will, but given the current structure this will be difficult.
