Hi,

The developers in my group love Eclipse, but I haven't switched from Slickedit for two reasons.

1) Vertical / column select / (copy/cut/paste) capability

2) "Enumerate" capability.

Vertical / column select - copy - cut - paste
-----------------------------------------------

Perhaps this is small in the world of editors, but I use both of these very regularly and I can't imagine not having the vertical select capability. It's extremely useful for cutting and pasting some text bounded by a row / column boundaries (say from row 12, column 20 to row 18, column 30). I use this several times during a software development session.

Does eclipse have anything like this? If not I think it would add a nice feature to the editor, and I know the developers in my group would like it.

"Enumerate" capability
------------------------------

This is another exceptionally useful capability in slickedit. Using a vertical selection, I can click "Edit" -> "Other" -> "Enumerate" and then set some parameters (starting number, value to increment by, 0 padding) and slickedit will give me a set of incrementing numbers through the vertical selection. This is also very handy, especially with java when processing a result set from the database and some column has been added to the database and therefore a change needs to be made in several places to the object which holds the database record.

Again, I don't suppose this capability is in eclipse? And if not, is anyone interested in adding it? It too is an awfully helpful capability.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need any more information. I'd be happy to work with a developer, provide detailed examples of how this works, send screen shots, order and have delivered cokes and candy bars, whatever would be helpful.

Sorry - this is probably a feature request and not a bug - just didn't find the right button to click when I started.

Thanks,

Rob

First item is covered by bug 19771.

Can you explain the second feature a bit more, e.g. what's a vertical selection, where are the numbers added (into text or separate ruler)?

Hi Daniel,

I've uploaded some screen shots as JPGs that cover the enumerate capability. It works in conjunction with vertical select. In regards to vertical selection - I read the bug report you referred to - not so encouraging. There seem to be a lot of people interested in it though. Is there anything we could do to request a higher priority?

Thanks,

Rob

Even the vertical selection feature would be a great help.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
