Description Morgan Jones CLA 2006-03-09 11:43:29 EST
A standard ASCII keyboard will generate an ESC character if the Ctrl-[ (pressing the open-square-bracket key while holding the control key) is pressed. Being a (dvorak) touch typist, I hated using the actual ESC key as afterwards you must reposition your hands on the home row, either by look or by feel, either of which takes time and makes you lose context. To avoid this problem, I use Ctrl-[ to generate and ESC character whenever I need to use a META key in Emacs.

For me, the lack of this key equivalence (Ctrl-[ for ESC) is enough of a problem to make Eclipse unusable to me for writing code.

Please make Ctrl-[ work as a meta key (like ESC) in the Emacs scheme.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
