Description Tassos Bassoukos CLA 2005-09-20 17:49:46 EDT
While an activated View can set the title tooltip programmatically, it is not
currently possible to have a tooltip on a view that hasn't been activated yet.

A suggested addition to the platform would be an extra optional attribute for
the extension point org.eclipse.ui.views containing the translatable tooltip for
the view.

Could you explain a scenario when this would be particularly useful for you?

We have an Eclipse RCP product that has a simple UI consisting of a
single folder containing servaral views. We would like to provide
users with more information on the function/role of each view via a
tooltip, but that is not possible without activating all views.

Consider also the scenario where the user has just started the
application, the view(s) with the most real estate (those that are
shown to the user) will have tooltips on the titles, but those with
the least on-screen presence (not yet activated views, shown as tabs)
will also provide the least information to the user as to their
function.

Remy is now responsible for watching the [ViewMgmt] category.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
