Description Michael Valenta CLA 2005-06-16 09:54:00 EDT
Often, the error messages recieved from the server are cryptic. One example
occurs when committing to a project for which you do not have commit rights.
When this happens, you will get an error indicating that the lock file could
not be opened. It would be helpful if the Eclipse CVS cient could include an
error message interpretor that could also offer the possible causes of the
error (i.e. in this case, a lack of commit rights). Care must be taken to make
sure that the user understands that the interpretation may be wrong for this
case and the original messahe should be shown in cae the interpretation is
wrong.

Another case of this is the "Up-to-date check failed" message which you get when there is a later revision on the server.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
