Description Mirko J. Ploch CLA 2005-06-16 09:40:03 EDT
I see that in Eclipse 3.1 the Import/Export functionality for
Window>Preferences... dialog has been moved to the File>Import... and
File>Export... dialogs. However the Import/Export functionality for User
Libraries still remains in the Preferences dialog. This is inconsistent. IMO,
the User Libraries Import/Export should be moved with the rest of the
Preferences Import/Export stuff to be consistant.

User libraries are provided by JDT.

The general Import/Export functionality isn't good enough to allow us
single/selected library import export.
Library names are user chosen, we couldn't give a list of keys to export, and
the wizards UI isn't really build for this (should better be a tree)

We also have a problem that the global Import/Export couldn't read the previous
file format (what would be required for compatibility)

Moving back to platform.ui

Martin, this information is not really helpful. What needs to happen for you to
get rid of you export on individual preference pages?

"The general Import/Export functionality isn't good enough to allow us
single/selected library import export."

- You could add a single export that exports the parent node of all libraries,
this seems like a reasonable thing to do.
- Or we add something that allows for more fine grained export where you plug
your own steps into the wizard

"Library names are user chosen, we couldn't give a list of keys to export, and
the wizards UI isn't really build for this (should better be a tree)"

- Again if all are exported this is not an issue. Or if we allow you to plug-in
to the current UI

"We also have a problem that the global Import/Export couldn't read the previous
file format (what would be required for compatibility)"

- re compatibility, agree, not sure here

The problem are exports of single libraries or of a selected number of
libraries. This is functionality we need and I don't see how I could do this
with the current import/export wizard.

Yes, a plug-in in the wizard would do the thing: Under a main node 'User
Libraries' I can provide you with child entries. When asked to export selected
entries, I can create the information to export.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
