The metadata generator is creaking under the load of the different usecases.  Prior to 1.0 some work was done to create a new solution, the publisher.  This has progressed and is now functionally equivalent (modulo bugs etc).  We should integrate this function as soon as possible in the next dev cycle so that it gets as much testing as possible.

FYI, there are now p2 related tests in HEAD of org.eclipse.pde.build.tests (P2Tests).  These tests will be checking the p2 integration with the build.

Also, I noticed there was a new branch point for the publisher.  Bug 237096 has since been fixed in HEAD & 3.4.1, patch is attached there if needed.

Using this as parent to random things that need fixing before build/export can use the publisher.
