Re: [science-iwg] Project recommendations

Marcel,

Thanks for the clarification. If you're in Kiel maybe we could have a chat and beer some time while I still work here (till late May)

I have not analyzed in detail which parts of JScience you use, but thanks to CQs raised by projects like SmartHome  we hope to get the successor to JSR-275, 363 into Orbit pretty soon, too. How soon projects like GeoAPI or JScience pick up the new standard I can't say, but it allows streamlining earlier APIs like 275 over time. And should you use any of the javax.measure part of JScience I'd certainly recommend moving to JSR 363 implementations soon, since it should get a final release unlike 275 soon ;-)

First of all thanks for the recommendation Phillip.

@Werner: Yes, Bio7 2.0 is licensed under the EPL but I still use one or two science libs which are licensed under the LGPL
(e.g. the for me important Rserve lib is licensed under the LGPL).
Of course some of these libraries could be externalized to an update site or are even deprecated and could be left out.

@Jay: To be an official Eclipse project would certainly offer some great advantages. At the Eclipse Con I met some fine
and inspiring people and projects. And networking increases definitely the productivitiy.

Best regards

Marcel

I would certainly love to, given Bio7 at least in in some bundles uses JSR-275 via JScience 4: http://bio7.org/?page_id=10

Well it was: licensed under the  EPL (since Bio7 1.6) and GPL (Bio7 1.5)

When I clicked on the link there was some page saying GPL or LGPL. Maybe
parts of the site still refer to 1.5?;-)

If Marcel is currently in Kiel, maybe I'll have a chat with him while I am
still in the area.
