Re: [science-iwg] Reminder about EclipseCon 2015 Deadline

Anything from the STEM team yet?

I know, IBM Almaden Labs is in Silicon Valley and lately they do some vital stuff around Ebola scenario prediction, so if it wasn't too scary or close to home in that case, I'd assume it was a great session for Science day.

My hope is that the theme days at EclipseCon, like Science day, are a recruiting tool for our working groups. Ideally the Science WG will put together a compelling set of sessions and then reach out to your science colleagues and invite them to attend.  Considering EclipseCon is in the bay area, I am hoping there are local people that should be interested.

You might also consider reaching out to potential speakers that might not be in the Science Group but are doing interesting and related work that you would like to hear speak.  For instance, maybe the guys at CS Studio might be a good candidate http://controlsystemstudio.org/ or are their researchers at Livermore Labs that might be interesting speakers.

Hi Folks,

The science days in NA and Europe are good ideas, we will help to support this with talks and other effort.

We should not be discouraged by attendance level to conferences and individual talks at this stage. It will take time before a critical mass is reached and the community is there. Eclipse con is certainly not something that the average science programmer would think of going to. Things like the science days will change this perspective, especially if containing interesting talks as it looks like the next one will be.

Sincerely,

Matt

Thanks Jay

I'll start working on the abstract then :-)

I was hoping to get some inside information on rocket science too. Nothing from NASA?

Torkild

PS: I've been asked to serve on the EclipseCon Europe program committee next year. In particular I'll be helping out on the SWG related presentations. It's still early days, but I'm hoping we can manage to get enough talks to fill a day. I noticed that there were few SWG people attending this year, so such a move could help on attendance. It will be interesting to see how it will turn out in the US conference.

Basically our domain experts will, for each case, design and rig the marine operation simulation using SIMA. Alongside the simulation model the scientist will write a "markdown" formatted file with documentation intermingled with asserts. So when you execute the file it will run the simulation and put the result in a document processed by Mylyn Docs. The resulting document (in PDF, HTML or EPUB format) can then be included in the product assembly and distributed. We just got started on this so I'm not quite sure where we will end up, but we should be all good by EclipseCon. In addition I'd also like to talk about documentation in general, and how you for instance can single source the Eclipse Help end e-book distributions. Sounds interesting?

We have only received four submissions for Science Day and they are all related to DAWN and ICE. We have an additional two submissions coming in from ORNL, but we are really hoping to get some other members of the WG to submit talks.

Ian,

Good point. A member of the ICE team from LBNL who does 3D visualization is
planning to attend, but not give a talk. I'll ask him if he wants to
propose something.
