1. Thanks for opening a bug.
2. Looks like a similar issue. Thanks for finding it for me.
3. Here are the steps:
- Install Eclipse for PHP Developers Mars M7.
- Install the News plugin
- After the restart, click on the news icon - you will see the news from Planet Eclipse.
- Go to preferences and switch off Planet Eclipse, or even uncheck "Enable News".
- Click again on the news icon - the new from Planet Eclipse are still there.
However, if I restart Eclipse then the preference take effect. But this should happen without a restart too.
4. OK. I see your point. But then why the icon turns red again after restarting Eclipse? Also consider the following: I have 3 news items from 10 feeds - total of 30 items. I click on the icon, I quickly go through all of them, but only choose one to click on it and read it in the browser. This will remove only one item from the list - 29 will remain. Next time the icon turns red, it will be hard for me to find out which is the new item. I would need some "new" indicator in the notification to help me.
Some additional issues:
5. Try to reduce the required dependencies. Currently the plugin depends on Code Recommenders, which depends on JDT. If I install the News plugin in a PHP IDE then I get also Code Recommenders and JDT, which does not make sense and is undesired.
6. The notification does not look well on dark theme (at least on Ubuntu). See the attached screenshot.
