Re: [recommenders-dev] Getting ready for the Google Summer of Code 2014: Your ideas needed
|
Hi all,
I quick note about mentoring (rather than participating as a student):
AFAIK, in order to formally mentor a GSoC project under the umbrella of
the Eclipse Foundation, you should be a committer on a (non-incubator)
Eclipse project.
But aside from formalities, you of course need to know the relevant
parts of the code base really well. Now, if a project proposal already
falls squarely into your area of expertise (in Michael's case, e.g., the
Jayes library) then great. But I would expect that most project
proposals cover quite a bit of ground, so getting familiar with the Code
Recommenders code base at large now and contributing patches to it is
IMHO the way forward towards being a mentor (and becoming a committer
along the way).
Best wishes,
Andreas
