Hi Rich,
You can assign the bugs to me since I am a committer on the project and
intending to be actively involved going forward. That should work until
more committers are added and available for assignment of bugs.

Hi,
I couldn't find a way to unassign, only to reassign to default for
component. But the default for many of the components in VE is Gili
Mendel. He also is not an active committer.
So you need to get the Webmaster to change these components to have some
active person (or to the new inbox you are talking about) to be the
default assignee for all of the components.
