Not sure what makes a blocker, but it is a noticeable difference from the Package Explorer. (And I meant to say that it could be something specific to the Project Explorer rather than a CN fix.)

I think this can be specific to CN.

That's indeed a good one. However, JDT, CDT, JSDT seem to include the necessary stuff for markers to be shown in Project Explorer. So I don't think it's a blocker for most projects and EPP packages.
