Re: [stp-pmc] STP PMC callin info
|
Mike,
I think we are in full agreement here:
http://www.eclipse.org/legal/committer_process/committer_request.html
Look at A & B. For initial project setup we used process B, with PMC
vote and this was
the way in which we brought the IBM guys in for example as they where
involved in the initial creation
but did not have their names together. This was noted in the initial
mail sent to the EMO and thus when
we added them two weeks ago we just referenced that mail to be fair and
consistent. I believe that we are NOT
in initial project setup anymore and thus, in my mail STP now needs to
work under (A), and thus my comment
to bring this up at the next PMC meeting and make sure that we follow
process (A). Sorry if that mail was to cryptic.
You can correct me here, but my understanding is that is a group comes
to us and wants to add another subproject
to STP, then as part of that process, the members of that sub-project
can be added as committers on acceptance of that
proposal... (however, when and if that happens, I will check the details
with Bjorn)
Regards
Carl.

Carl,
The committer process for STP is the standard one described at

r_v1.0.php
Pardon me if I'm just not seeing it, but I don't see a reference to a "vote
from PMC" process.
It is acceptable for a project to list initial committers once it is first
created. But after that, each project (aka "sub-project") is supposed to be
nominating and electing their own committers following the process above.
The PMC then approves the committer and refers his election to the EMO for
provisioning.

Dan,
There are two processes that can be used, vote by committers
based on contribution or vote from PMC. Once we have a good
rate of code going we clearly need to use the first process,
The second process is usefull for setup and for example if we
work closely with WTP it might just make sense to vote a
committer onto the project to help us in this area. So at
this point we are still following Eclipse process.
I will bring this up in the next PMC meeting, to switch to
committer vote.
Regards
Carl.

Hi Oisin,
Could you provide me with the STP PMC call-in information
for the PMC
meetings? I wasn't even aware that we were holding separate PMC
meetings.
Also, I am curious why we are not following the Eclipse process for
new committers? Are these individuals contributing code?
Have they
worked on a subproject and earned their committer rights?
Or are they
just new to a group and someone wanted them added to the
project just
in case they were to do something?
Eclipse projects are starting to catch some criticisms for not
following Eclipse foundation processes for new committers so I just
wanted to make sure we are doing things correctly.

[stp-pmc] Vote required for new committers request
At today's PMC call, I propose that we add
Mark Little mark.little@xxxxxxxxx
Kevin Connor kevin.connor@xxxxxxxxx
to the list of STP committers. If the PMC votes so, I will
follow up
with them on the required paperwork after the meeting.
