[stem-dev] Notes from STEM Team Call 9/15/2010

09/15/2010

Task and Documentation Tracking

On call: Jamie, Tom, Stefan, Dan, Greg, Tero, Matt, Judy, Arik

STEM Release 1.1.0 Status

·         Second Release Candidate (RC2) is posted, appears stable; going through Eclipse IT approval process

·         All: Send any bugs to Jamie

·         Anyone interested in contributing to STEM: Confirm w/ your employer that this is okay, get proactive letter of approval, email to Jamie w/ copy to Barb Cockran @ Eclipse

Update on Zoonotic Modeling Plans

·         Phone call with Swiss scientists modeling malaria yesterday; per Jamie, not focused on mathematical modeling; per Arik, not interested in the spatial elements of disease modeling; per Jamie, they did identify open code they’ve written, we will look into

STEM on Server

·         Tero: Looking at using CDO, posted observations, queries on Newsgroup

·         Matt: CDO offers ability to do collaborative authoring; can now do some of this via the use of drop ins, what CDO offers in more online authoring

·         Jamie: With an online view of Project Explore, how to use version control?

·         Greg: Tero’s #2 on Newgroup post of interest; his team is interacting directly w/ STEM, clients are not; interactive view doesn’t buy much; ideal is a web service (initialize, say go, get data back); client API; have already stripped off front end

·         Matt: Use key value databases; offer distributed computing, infrastructure; analyze masses of data? Adds overhead

·         Matt: Will summarize, post on Newsgroup for further discussion next week

Items from Participants

·         To do, Judy: Review documentation for new version to be sure not gaps; Jamie will supply descriptive text for US/Mexico download

·         Arik, issue raised: Interface to use Earth Science data; per Jamie, will show up on UI, will resolve
