RE: [spaces-dev] Not possible to sign up for xdrive


I was able to work through most of the registration issues w/ Henrik over the phone.

These are the gotchas that people need to be aware of:

1) CLEAR YOUR COOKIES
   If you have been through registration before, it set cookies. The reg system will error out if it sees these cookies on another pass. The symptom here is that you clicked on "Sign Up for Free" and got a "We're Sorry" message. Make sure that you clear your cookies, then start the reg flow.

2) USE A VALID PHONE NUMBER
   The system validates US phone numbers. You have to use a valid prefix, such as 310, 703, or 260. Also, no US phone number has xxx-555-xxxx. So you cannot use the sample phone number, which has a 555 in it.

   So any phone number with 1) valid prefix and 2) no 555 for the second set of digits seems to work

3) USE A VALID ZIP CODE
   The system also requires a valid US zip code. (I know, no need to tell me about the world beyond the US). So, use a valid zip code like 90120 or 20166)

Henrick,

   I was able to sign up for several Xdrive's this morning. That is not to say that there wasn't an issue, but that they seem to be resolved by now.

  As a work around, if this happens again, have people register at www.bluestring.com. It uses a different registration service that xdrive does (we are porting Xdrive over to the same service soon). But BlueString uses Xdrive for storage. So when you signup for BlueString, that account will also log you into xdrive.

  The advantage that the www.bluestring.com reg has, that Xdrive will soon have, is that it allows people to signup:
      1) By using an existing AOL/AIM screen name is they have one
      2) By creating a new AOL screen name if you want one
         OR
      3) By using any existing email address that you already have.
