The purpose is to migrate any usage of JMockit to Mockito in any part of the main repository. Namely the modules you mentioned, yes.

I also want to know more details of what test framework needs to be migrated to JUnit 5 in the second project.

Our current test framework is based on JUnit 4, since this is a requirement for Arquillian. The main point here is to decouple our tests from Arquilllian, and upgrade them to JUnit5.

Of course, for any of the projects you want to participate in, you will get proper guidance and mentoring (if selected). Please, also consider the recommendations Rohan gave you in his previous email (embedded following).

If you haven't done so, I suggest you read the GSoC Contributor Guide [1]. You can find information specific to the Eclipse Foundation in this link to the mailing list [2].
GSoC is all about open-source and the open-source way. In general, the preferred ways of communication are through our open channels: Gitter [3], user mailing list [4], GitHub discussions [5], etc.

Both the projects you selected are good options to strengthen your unit testing skills with Java. In both cases, the core work is to migrate and adapt existing tests, so you'll be able to understand and learn new things regarding JUnit5 and Mockito in a very safe environment.
