Re: [rap-dev] Sandbox Purpose and Contents

Hi Ralf,

I think renaming the "sandbox" to "extras" is a great idea. Thanks for clarifying the RAP team's perspective on what its purpose is. The only remaining question in my mind is what to do with the RAP incubator web page. Seeing widgets sourced from "extras" and "incubator" on a site labeled "RAP Incubator" seems a bit confusing.

Thanks for the dialog.

Hi Austin,

I see your point of having two locations that seem to serve a similar
purpose. Actually, the sandbox has become a place for components that
are maintained by the RAP project (not the RAP Incubator) but are not
part of the official build. These components are not in an incubation
phase. Thus we would like them out of the incubator.

We discussed this and came up with the idea to rename the "sandbox" to
"extras". Would that be make its purpose more clear?

Regarding the upload widget: this component already passed the IP
process, and there are plans to graduate it (see bug 190763). We still
need to sort out what needs to be done for a graduation and discuss this
with Stefan, who maintains this widget. If it turns out that it cannot
be graduated in a reasonable time frame (say until 1.4), I agree we
should move it to the incubator.

Hello,

I was wondering if there is anything in the sandbox that should go into
incubator.
Traditionally, I realize that the sandbox acted as a dumping ground for
experiments and peripheral RAP contributions,
but now that we have the incubator is seems like its purpose is now more
clear.

It seems like the sandbox should be used for experiments and little demo
apps, while the incubator should be for more stable contributions.
So along that line of thought, it seems like at least the upload bundles
should be moved to the incubator.

I am sure that moving bundles between CVS folders could possibly, cause
some heartburn for consumers, but for most they wouldn't really care.

I just see that the sandbox needs a clear definition, and having a RAP
incubator web page that references bundles in 2 different locations
(sandbox/incubator) is a little strange to me.
Does anyone else have an opinion?
