Re: [ptp-user] Indexer fails with remote projects over ssh tunnels

All,

Documenting this for posterity's sake.

At Roland Schulz's suggestion, I tried using a SOCKS proxy instead of an ssh tunnel with an RSE connection to a running RDT server. It was more successful than the ssh tunnel, in that creating a remote C++ project didn't result in C/C++ indexer errors. Thanks to Roland for the suggestion.

Unfortunately it isn't a completely working solution, since there are still problems with starting a PBS-Generic resource manager (described in another thread to this list).

When you're configuring the RM, open the "Advanced Options" and make sure that "SSH Port Forwarding" is enabled (it should be by default). You shouldn't need to manually set up the tunnel or install or launch any servers on the remote side.

I can connect to the RDT server successfully, can browse remote files, examine remote processes, etc. The problem I'm seeing is that when I create a remote C/C++ project, the Eclipse GUI gives an error dialog saying there was a C/C++ indexer error, with the only details that there was a java . lang . NullPointerException. I've tried using both the system's default java installation and the latest JDK from Oracle. Note that when I try these same actions with another remote system that does not need the ssh tunnel, the software works as expected (i.e., no indexer errors) making me think that I have all the needed plugins and the tunnel is somehow causing the problem.
