If you mean "what can it do", then the parser is called with every buffer of data that is sent from the remote host to the terminal. If the parse method returns true, the buffer will be displayed in the terminal. If the method returns false, nothing will be displayed.

If you mean “what does PTP use it for”, this is the basis of Steve’s integration of command line tools with GUI tools. PTP uses the parser to intercept a special escape sequence that is used to drive the UI from the command line. So by typing a command in the terminal, it is possible to pop up a dialog in the UI. Or it can record all commands that have been typed and provide a GUI version of the command history. 

Just to be clear, there are two parts to this. The (now) TM Remote Terminal part that just provides the extension point, and the PTP part which provides the extension that does the command line/UI integration.
