Re: [polarsys-iwg] PolarSys solutions

HI Raphaël,

As Dominique says, having a project listed as a PolarSys solution depends on several criteria. I would says that the main criteria are:
* Making sure that the project is mature enough. I think that you have a good maturity in terms of development process and compliance with the Eclipse Development Process, but by maturity, we also mean deployments (see the next topic)
* Having "documented" deployments that are not only R&D use cases but real deployments. All of current solutions are really used by some PolarSys members on real production projects, and we are working on documenting those usage through success stories.
* Finding a sponsor among the PolarSys Steering Committee members that deploys the project.
* Covering a significant market. We mean that a too small project can't become a solution. I think this criteria is ok for ReqCycle that covers at least the req traceability or even req engineering at large if you plan to extend it.

For the moment, Reqcycle is listed as a PolarSys project in the PolarSys project page. We are working on a new version of this page with more filtering capabilities.

Hope this helps,
Gaël Blondelle

Hi Dominique,

OK, thanks for those first elements on the selection process.

Do you know if there is a place where I can find exhaustive list of those characteristics/criteria and associated comments describing how they are evaluated?
It would help me preparing a first « auto evaluation » as support for discussion with Gael.

Best regards,
Raphaël

Hi Raphael,

The goal of a PolarSys Solution is to satisfy the needs of a market segment, has to be stable, thoroughly tested, etc. it also has to be sponsored by the steering committee and needs to have a PolarSys Solution lead.

A good indication is usually if it is used to develop products at an end user company where it covers the needs of a specific development phases:
Requirements analysis, System design, Architecture, Implementation, testing, etc.

You can discuss with Gael and if ReqCycle meets all the criterias we can bring this topic at the next steering committee meeting.

Best Regards,

Dominique

Dear Polarsys IWG,

Is there a specific reason why ReqCycle is not listed in solutions? https://www.polarsys.org/solutions
What is the procedure to make ReqCyle appear?
Thanks
raphaël
