Re: [platform-update-dev] Old Installation's Customization Export, New Installation Re-Customize

This is already possible now. People are using product extesions (a .link file dropped into the eclipse/links directory pointing to some other eclipse location that contains your features/plugins) to maintain the same plugins, and they keep the workspace outside the eclipse install directory using -date when launching eclipse.
One problem with config data shared between installs is that those plugins may not be compatible with the new eclipse.

[platform-update-dev] Old Installation's Customization Export, New Installation Re-Customize

For those of us who periodically re-install base Eclipse IDE, it is an
annoyance to re-customize Eclipse the way you had it before.

That is, to install again the same features that you had installed in the
previous version, and to install the same list of CVS repositories with
your passwords, etc.

Is anyone going to add some program that can be run within the "old"
Eclipse to dump some XML file with this customization information, so that
I could then uninstall and delete the "old" Eclipse, download and reinstall
the "new" Eclipse, and then invoke a second program, pointing to the XML
file with the customization information, and have it install here the
features I had previously and the CVS repositories I had previously?

Thanks,
Bob

Eclipse 2.1.2)
