Tim, we were planning to expose the local CD drives through the UI in a way similar to the win explorer. If you click on the CD icon, the tree will expand and show you what is there (assuming there is a CD in the drive with Eclipse stuff on it). So you will see the remote site(s) and the CD(s) as separate entries, but you only ever have to configure one (the CDs will be automatically (code not there yet)). If you already have an installed feature, we have an action to "check available updates". This will search accessible sites, incl. local CDs.

By the way, the new update support is now being built in the 2.0 stream. The last 2 nightly builds have the stuff (11/14 and 11/15). [both action sets are called "Sofware Update" though, so make sure you activate the right one]
