Re: [platform-swt-dev] GTK3 - What bugs are important

Hi,

I agree, GTK3 is still not as stable as GTK2. On RHEL 7.2 is is usable inside IDE (4.6.3) for daily work of our lab, but with some glitches here and there. Right now we have only one critical issue (on RHEL 7.2), that is with https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=370215, and this is with all 4.x versions we used (4.6.3, 4.7.1, 4.8).

Here is my query for GTK3 bugs: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&classification=Eclipse&component=SWT&list_id=16974223&order=bug_id%20DESC&product=Platform&query_based_on=GTK3%20open&query_format=advanced&short_desc=gtk3&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr

I would propose to create an umbrella bug with "GTK3 showstoppers" and link all the "really bad" bugs to it. This way it will not get lost and we will see some kind of GTK3 status. I've just created https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=527444 exact for this purpose.

Hi all,

A lot of GTK2 related bugs, e.g. <https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=526621>, seem not to be fixed because GTK3 is favored. I've now tried with the latest SWT 4.7 build with our software and GTK3 and opening the preferences took ages, most likely because it contains 2 read-only comboboxes with all available text file encodings. It is following bug

<https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=489640>

and these are the kind of bugs that prevent us from using GTK3 at the moment. Having to wait 10s to open a dialog is unacceptable - others have reported >1min.

I have not tried with SWT 4.8 yet, because that does not support machines any more that our users still use (e.g. CentOS/Redhat 6).

Maybe this thread can be used to collect the bugs that prevent users from switching to GTK3 in the current state.
