Yeah, I've been using pre-2.0 for a while and it's just enormously
better than 1.2, in everything from API to feature set to docs.
There's no going back.

Re: whether fixed is fixed, I need to understand better in my mind
what the current Eclipse issues are. I was just remembering that one
of the issues with AWT peers was that fixed doesn't let you control
stacking order easily:

Unfortunately that feature is one of many that was punted from 2.0 so
we could ship in our lifetimes... 2.0 is a huge improvement, but
we haven't attained nirvana yet. ;-)
