Re: [platform-releng-dev] Trigger I-Build

There's nothing I like better than sleeping late enough that by the time I wake up, an issue has "fixed itself".  :)

And, yes, I am normally happy to do "test I-builds" if committers need them, and a note to this list is the right way to request it. But ... committers can do themselves, locally, as mentioned in subsequent posts, and documented in
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform-releng/Platform_Build

I am more reluctant to do official off-schedule I-builds ... unless there is wide spread buy-in (such as from other component leads or PMC) ... simply because that "changes the repository" which can have ripple effects, etc. (And sounds like in this case, you wanted the repository updated.)

I'm writing this note, though, for two main reasons:

A. Any time someone finds a reason that a "whole build" is needed, it would be nice to make a note in our bug about monolithic builds, especially if there is any specific suggestion to solve any particular case:
Bug 398613 - [CBI] make builds less monolithic

B. I was asked, and could not think of a good reason not to, why the Gerrit builds don't use the N-build repositories as their "target". While this wouldn't solve the "build everything" issue, it I would guess there would be many times you could make one change one day, and then make the other change the next day ... so at least it narrows the "turn around time". (If this helps those of you in charge of Gerrit builds, credit goes to Dani, who is the one who asked, as an aside, while we were talking about other, unrelated topics).

Thanks,

Hi,

can you trigger an I-Build for Eclipse platform? We have a simulanous change in runtime and UI. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=445461

Best regards, Lars
