Re: [platform-releng-dev] Propose early re-build of M-build

I re-enabled our build against the 4.3M platform. The build job runs successfully with the update site M20140124-1600. The previously missing EMF bundles can now be found.

Thanks for the quick fix, David.

Cheers,

Ken

Subject: Re: [platform-releng-dev] Propose early re-build of M-build

For the record, the M20140124-1600 build (and its repository) were "good".

I confirmed the repo could be "aggregated", and that "pulling the latest" from
.../eclipse/updates/4.3-M-build/M20140124-1600
gave same result as pulling the latest from the composite,
.../eclipse/updates/4.3-M-build.

I decided, still, to remove the "bad" M20140122-1000 repository ... thinking it would be better if someone "failed fast", rather than use a bad repository and fail later. I did leave the build page in place, since as far as I know it and its unit tests are still relatively valid. (But, of course, would encourage people to "use the latest", as always).

Thanks again to Ken Lee for quickly bringing this issue to our attention.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming ... :)

Good idea. Thanks David!

Our RC2 contribution is expected to be whatever we build next Wednesday (though, not due until Friday).

But, I'd like to propose I do an early (re?) build later today.

As Ken's note indicates our repository is "sort of" inconsistent (I say "sort of" because it contains multiple versions of some pre-req bundles, due to my error ... so, it "works for us" .. but I can imagine it would prevent others from "building against it" and I have confirmed it prevents us from making an "early, warm-up" contribution for RC2 to Sim. Release aggregation). I think it is especially important since there _might_ be more than one inconsistency, judging from Steve's comments in
bug 426065 (and rather can carefully think through those comments ... I'd rather just try it. :)

Plus, later today, I expect to promote the final Orbit SR2 repository, so I'll wait until then to do another M-Build. Let's say, I'll schedule the M-build for 4 PM (1600) Eastern time. This implies I won't run N-builds back on until Saturday ... though could crowd them in, if important to anyone?

If this interferes with anyone's plans, let me know here on this list and I'll adjust.

I'd do it sooner ... but I promised to make chili for this cold weather, so have to go to the store. :)

Thanks,

Now fixed, so will be correct for our next M-build, in time for RC2.

Thanks! In the meantime I will disable our build against the Kepler 4.3M update site. The problem arises because we use “0.0.0” as a version constraint for nearly all bundles located at the 4.3M update site. That’s why Tycho will fetch the latest version that is 2.9.2 for EMF currently.

Now that I've looked closer, the discrepancy you are pointing out was not the same as previously discussed in the bug,
and as I did look closer, saw there was an error in our 'specification' of the pre-req. Now fixed, so will be correct for our next
M-build, in time for RC2.

Thanks for pointing it out.

You are not the first to notice the apparent discrepancy ... see if discussion in bug 426065 answers your question.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=426065

If I understand the comments there correctly ... same bits, different versions (so we, Platform, should run with either).

Hi,

I think there’s a problem with the latest Kepler 4.3M update site [1]. If you have a look at [2], there’s an entry for
org.eclipse.emf.ecore and org.eclipse.emf.common in version 2.9.2.

However, these bundles cannot be found in [3]. Could anyone have a look at that issue?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Ken
